About the Program
Confirmation is a life-cycle service developed by leaders of the Reform Movement more than 100 years ago to honor teenagers who have decided to continue their Jewish education into adulthood. Teens gather to meet, learn, struggle and engage with our clergy, faculty, each other and to reaffirm their Jewish identity, commitment to Jewish learning and the Jewish people.
Confirmation takes place during Monday Night CHAI each week. As part of the MNC experience, your teen will be able to choose from a diverse selection of electives in the first hour, while the second block will be dedicated to Confirmation.
One of the special opportunities included in the Confirmation Class is the privilege of learning with our outstanding clergy: Senior Rabbi Jeremy Barras, Rabbi Rachel Greengrass, Rabbi Jaime Aklepi, Senior Cantor Tifani Coyot, faculty and various speakers.
Each of our faculty will present a theme for the teens to dissect. Whether it is a deeper understanding of the Holocaust, Israel, Tikkun Olam, “What is Jewish About Me” or “Jewish Identity in a Changing World with Many Faiths,” our 10th grade students will reaffirm their Jewish identity and commitment to Jewish learning with a deeper analysis of text.
A dynamic part of Confirmation is participation in the incredible L’taken Social Justice Seminar, in Washington, DC. This national program — sponsored by the Reform Action Center — introduces teens to current social and political issues that are being debated on Capitol Hill and presents the Reform movement’s positions on many of these concerns.
The Confirmation Service at the end of the year is a wonderful opportunity to create a meaningful, spiritual and creative Friday night Shabbat service to celebrate this milestone in the teens’ Jewish journey.
