Stand Up For Banned Books
A Concert to Celebrate National Banned Books Week
This free of charge, kid-friendly concert is intended to foster community building and civic engagement amongst Miami families and offer an opportunity to celebrate stories of distinct cultures and of love, resistance and diversity.
Joanie Leeds (GRAMMY Winning, NYC based singer-songwriter who grew up in Miami at TBAM) will perform a community concert of her FREADOM album, featuring songs inspired by children’s books banned in the state of Florida. In addition to a live musical performance, community members will enjoy live readings of banned book titles, banned children’s books will be available for sale, and families can participate in social actions to address educational censorship and book bans.
