2014 — Julianne, Dan, Remy, Mackenzie & Chase Farkas
We Salute the Farkas Family, selected as the Committee of 100’s 2014 ‘Family of the Year’
Each year, Temple Beth Am is proud to recognize an outstanding family of volunteers. Congratulations to the Farkas Family — Julianne, Dan, Remy, Mackenzie and Chase — who have been selected as recipients of the Committee of 100’s 2014 “Family of the Year” Award, for their continued participation in our Temple community and their ongoing commitment to congregational leadership.
Dan currently serves as a member of Temple Beth Am’s Board of Directors. Committed to the Religious School and Youth Activities programs, he is an original member of the “Bagel Boyz,” selling bagels and doughnuts to raise funds for both. On most Sunday mornings you can find him eating and/or selling bagels in the Extended Social Hall ensuring that the students start their morning studies off with a hearty nosh and a laugh.
Julianne currently serves on the Board of the Religious School. Passionate about education in her professional life as a teacher at Miami Palmetto Senior High School and as a parent, she has served as a Religious School room mother for numerous years and is the Co-Chair of this year’s “Shake-a-leg” community service project for Temple Beth Am’s 2014 Mitzvah Day.
Remy became a Bat Mitzvah in April 2012. She currently serves on the Board of BAFTY in the position of 9th Grade Member-at-Large. Inspired by her time at Beth Am and her involvement in NFTY programs, she created “BAFTY 2.0. New Look, New Feel, New BAFTY.” The kick off in February was a tremendous success as fellow BAFTY members new and old repainted and redecorated the Youth Lounge in the Hessel Family Youth Complex. New BAFTY programs include revised Monday night activities, a trip to Sky Zone and culminate in May with the “White Hot Shabbat,” a Miami Heat-inspired Shabbat service and dinner led by BAFTY members. She is a student at Miami Palmetto Senior High School.
Mackenzie, a sixth grader at Palmetto Middle School, attends Beth Am Religious School and is a BAFTY 56 member. She is looking forward to her Bat Mitzvah in March 2015 and already has started working on her Mitzvah Project.
Chase is a third grade Religious School student and BAFTY 34 member, and attends Pinecrest Elementary School. He has spent the last three years enrolled in Temple Beth Am’s Basketball Clinics and After School Programs, and can’t wait to finally be able to play in this year’s Beth Am Basketball’s Spring League.
